McKinney Falls State Park

McKinney Falls State Park

The morning was spent keeping warm in our van.  While the temperature may seem mild to our friends in Indiana, it was in the upper 20s for most of the morning.

After lunch, while it was still cool, there was no wind so we took a hike along the Onion Creek Trail; a 3.6 mile hike along Onion Creek to the “Upper Falls.”  The signs warned of rough surface and steep grades — not as we would describe it.  We saw lots of Indiana birds — doves, crows, turkey vultures, cardinals, tohees, sparrows.  We saw an interesting foam on the base of some plants — like a spittle bug— but if this is a spittle bug, it is a Texas sized variety.  Maybe Cliff Sadof can tell us what made it when we send him the picture.  The falls were interesting — lots of limestone sculpted by the water.

On our route back to the van we stopped at the park office and extended our stay her for one more night thinking that waiting for better weather made sense.
