Serpon Sugar Mill
Multiple activities today.
After a morning of swimming and relaxing, Andrew, Jen, and GME went off fishing on a boat with a guide. They had a great afternoon even though they didn’t catch any fish large enough to keep.
David, Janet, and G visited the Serpon Sugar Mill. This mill operated from 1865 until the beginning of the 20th century. At its peak it shipped over 1700 pounds of sugar per month. The property has been taken over by moss and lichen, but the little museum is still quite interesting and worth the stop. From there we went to town for a few groceries and a stop at Caitlin’s bakery. Unfortunately most of Caitlin’s bread was still in the oven so we had to “settle” for some sticky buns.
Back at the rental G and Janet made some “English muffins” and a big pot of spaghetti sauce (in case there were no fish brought home). We also had a great swim — there was a full rainbow in the east and lots of small silver fish jumping out of the water near us.
