Olympic Training Center
Our morning was spent with Amanda relaxing at our campsite and hiking (2.2 miles) on the hills near the reservoir. We then headed to a Thai restaurant in Chula Vista for a great lunch.
After lunch we headed to the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center. Opened in 1995, the center provided facilities for year-round warm weather training for athletes in various sports. Amanda was able to show us her dorm, the boat house and lake where she rows and ergs everyday, and the facilities for archery, field hockey, track, rugby, soccer, BMX biking, beach volleyball, and tennis. Right now there are about 130 athletes (23 of them rowers) at the center. The center is big, clean, and well-maintained. Amanda is enjoying it there and will be there until the end of March when the rowers return to the Princeton training facility.
We are so glad we got to come out to see her life here. Tomorrow we start heading east. Hope the weather improves at home soon.
