Hoar Frost

Hoar Frost

This morning the skies were still overcast and the air was cold (low 30s), but we decided it was time to leave Big Bend and start north and east.  The roads were dry and there was actually sun on some rocks.  About 30 miles north of the town of the Marathon, we went up to 4500 feet elevation and entered the fog (clouds).  The scene was memorable.  There was hoar frost on everything.  The fences were outlined, every blade of glass and bush was covered.  In places the crystals extended out 2 inches from the plants.  I have never seen such a heavy coating.  David got some great pictures which are posted below.

We stopped in Fort  Stockon to do some grocery shopping and ended up spending the night there as the visibility was still limited.  Tomorrow: Eastward.
