East Twin Lake CG

East Twin Lake CG

After a morning hike around the falls in Copper Falls State Park, we headed south and west to the Flambeau River State Forest, but we never made it there.

First we stopped for a hike on the Pekonee Wilderness ski trails.  Our 2+ mile hike took us through some woods unlike others we have seen so far.  Mostly maple, with a little oak.  At first the undergrowth was grass (!) then low maples.  Nice walk.

On the way to our planned campsite we passed the Mineral Lake NFS CG and decided to check it out, but found that it was closed for Fiscal Year 2015.  From there we headed to East Twin Lake NFS CG.  It was perfect.  Nine sites on or near the lake.  No one there.  We selected site 9 and settled in for an evening around the fire.  Dinner was steak, potatoes-onions-parsnips, sweet potatoes, and salad.

The next day (Thursday) was rainy, cold, and overcast — as forecast.  We spent the day reading and processing pictures and managed one nice walk to West Twin Lake in the afternoon.  Dinner was turkey soup, salad, and homemade lox.

East Twin Lake CG Review:  Small campground with two small loops.  All but two sites back into the lake.  Each loop has a dock with the one off site 9 being the most substantial.  The higher numbered sites are located on a peninsula into the lake, so there is water view from each one.  Really an amazing campground.  Amenities include pit toilets, fire pits, water at just the lower numberd loop, docks, and a boat ramp.  Downed wood may be gathered, but there is not much available as I am sure this is a very popular campground during the summer months. Limited AT&T cell service (only phone and texts) and no TV.  No electric.
