Seminole Canyon State Park

Nice park sitting on the rim of Seminole Canyon.  We have been here before; in fact, our best selling lampshade is a picture of a rock wall at the visitors’ center.

The campground is high up on a plateau.  Our site, 17, is non-Electric.  There is a whole loop of primitive sites that are just pull-offs from a long road. There are a number of nice hikes — one we took last time is about 6-miles down and back to a view of the Rio Grande with a view of the Phantom Cave.  To access the Phantom Cave and see the pictographs there you need a boat.

Today’s hike was the ranger led tour into the canyon to see the pictographs.  In order to protect the pictographs you cannot enter the canyon unless you join a ranger led tour into the canyon.  Our ranger, Kevin, was exceedingly knowledgeable and well-spoken. The steps built into the canyon were generally easily descended and climbed.  There was one steep set at the deepest point into the canyon that was very challenging when descending as there were no handholds and Janet’s vertigo set in.  All was well when David went ahead and she kept a hand on his back.

Back at the visitors’ center we had a nice chat with some Canadians who are touring the south US.  They are hoping to find some warmer weather soon — in general it has been a mild winter, but a bit cooler than average.

We returned to our campsite to work on a few pictures (David) and work on emails and blogs (Janet).  Then took a walk out onto the plateau where the primitive sites are located followed by dinner in the van.

the internet here from our hotspot is very fast, once again I am wondering if the difference is 4G versus 5G. Good enough that I could watch Purdue beat Michigan in basketball.
