Soldier Lake to Massey ON
Our drive today took us through Sault Saint Marie and over the Soo Bridge which connects the US and Canadian sides of the city. Beautiful views of the locks and the lakes to the left and right.
While in the cities we did a bit of grocery shopping and stopped at a computer store to see if we could get the batteries on our iPhones replaced. They could have replaced the batteries, but would have had to order them first, so we will cope for now.
The drive today was through farm land (mostly hay, though some rape seed and potatoes) with glimpses of of Lake Huron.
We arrived at Chutes Provincial Park with time to get settled and take a short walk on the Twin Bridges Trail along the Aux Sables River. The falls/rapids in this river are fabulous. The park’s name comes from the chutes that were built on the river to sort logs that were floated down the river in the 1800s. The logs were cut during the winter and laid on the frozen river. In the spring they would float down the river to the Spanish River to Lake Huron where they are shipped to sawmills further south.
The campground is well-laid out with well-spaced, large sites. About half have electric, all have fire rings and picnic tables. Flush toilets, water, trash receptacles, and recycling containers are available. Good ATT service with booster.
