Alamo Lake SP – Loop E

Alamo Lake SP – Loop E

We decided to move to a loop E of the State park. The sites here are further apart, have great views of the lake and desert, and have good enough internet service so that we can watch Purdue play in the Big Ten Tournament.

I’m almost embarrassed to say that we are sitting in the great outdoors watching basketball, but Purdue has been a fun team to watch this year.

We have had many nice walks here. On one we just followed burro trails out to the west of our site. The ground cover is mostly creosote and tamarisk, but a few acacia in the washes. On another walk we took the OHV trail out of the campground then again followed the burro trails. These burro trails are amazing, they are very visible up on the tops of the rock covered mesas. Our third walk was to follow the shoreline which gave us great views of the lake birds — heron, coots, gulls, and white pelicans. Such a beautiful place to hike.

One night the clouds moved in a bit just before sundown which allowed for a gorgeous sunset.
