Back to Fundy NP

After spending Sunday letting the power and tree people do their magic, we left our Walmart space.  Our plan had been to drive to Porter’s Lake provincial park to the east of Halifax and then on to Kejimkujik NP.  Unfortunately both are closed until at least Wednesday, with no promise that the closing won’t be extended.  Thus, we decided to head into New Brunswick where we knew there were sites available at Chignecto CG in Fundy NP — about a four hour drive. Fundy is also on the path of our drive home, whether we head down through New England or through Quebec and Ontario and Michigan.

On the drive here there were a few trees down and a few areas without power, but traveling on the TransCanadian Highway was with out incident.

When we arrived at registration at Chignecto, we were sorry to hear a generator running outside the office.  We took an electric site anyway for three days as they said the electric was expected to be back on tonight.  We don’t really need electric since our batteries are fully charged after the drive, and we have a generator if needed. Thee are other signs that the hurricane passed through here — downed limbs and spruce tree tops on the ground.

We have stayed at Chignecto before on this trip.  The sites are amazingly private with picnic table and fire ring.  There are flush toilets and showers nearby and even a laundry. ATT data works, but not as well since our big booster power supply died. The other campgrounds in the park have their pluses too. Headquarters is an easy walk to Alma and the visitor’s center. Point Wolfe is close to several great walks and a nice beach. But neither of those have the privacy of Chignecto.

We are looking forward to walking the woods trails in this part of the park.  When we were here last time all our hiking was on the trails along the edge of the bay.
