Madeline Island Hiking

Perfect day for a 3.7 mile walk. The Woods Trail took us through pine, hemlock, spruce and hardwood forest. Nice trail except for a few muddy spots. This trail took us to our first lake overlook. The Point Trail paralleled the lakeshore. Fabulous views of the huge rocks that form the lakeshore. There are a few strategically placed benches for resting and enjoying the view.

At the juncture with the Bayview Trail another path led off to a parking lot. Suddenly there were a few other walkers and several side trails where one could safely walk out on the rock shelves. At some of those side trails there were lifesaving rings available for emergency use. We did hear one, presumedly young, person jump into the lake from the rocks followed by a lot of sputtering.
