Deschutes National Forest

Deschutes National Forest

We left Amanda and Brian’s after breakfast. After some shopping at Ray’s Food Market (rather expensive) and dumping at Gordy’s tuck stop ($13 – rather expensive), we drove the 6 miles to the Deschutes National Forest. Just off Forest road 44 we found a spacious site right on the edge of the Deschutes River.

We spent the afternoon reading, walking the shore, and working on the computer (David). In the late afternoon, Amanda and Bo came out to join us for dinner and a walk up the road to an overlook of Bull Bend. Bull Bend is an ox bow in the river that is so deep that the river almost meets itself in the pinch point. Amanda says that in the summer they put tubes into the water and fl,oat around to the pinch point, then walk over the bit of land to fl,oat downriver again. A natural lazy river.
