Jack Pine/Coastal Trail
After a gray morning with rain threatening we headed up the Cabot Trail to the Jack Pine Trail. The trail is a loop trail with two possible returns. We started out through a forest of spruce and jack pine with a fair amount of ascent and then descent. After reaching the point where our trail met the coastal trail we chose to turn right and return to the parking on the coastal trail rather than looping back through the woods on the Jack Pine Trail.
The coastal trail had many spurs leading to rock outcropping into the ocean. The views were stunning and the wind off the ocean took your breath away.
At the point where Black Brook came into the ocean was a lovely Adirondack chair where I could sit and watch the waterfall in the Brook or the crashing waves on the shore. Cape Breton Highlands NP has placed a number of these chairs through out the park at particularly scenic spots. A nice touch.
