Goodland KS to Paxico KS
Wow Kansas is a long state. We drove all day without seeing much of note – just green alfalfa fields, fields not yet planted, grain elevators, and isolated farmhouses surrounded by green windbreaks.
There was one strange part of 1-70. The fairly new concrete road was a washboard, just like a gravel road that needed grading. It was a true relief when the road finally changed.
We discovered that many of the rest areas along I-70 have RV dumps and overnight camping loops with picnic tables and, in some cases, grills. There are wash rooms with flush toilets because after all it is an interstate rest area.
David noted that the rest stop just after Paxico had a large such loop between the east- and westbound lanes. We spent the night there in a pulloff surrounded by trees. The sites have picnic tables and trash cans, but most are not very level. Lots of road noise.
