Smith Lake Park

Smith Lake Park

Smith Lake is a large man-made lake with a county park and campground on its shore. When we first arrived we had a pleasant walk around the lake shore — 58-degrees and overcast. Probably 20 trucks with trailers at the boat launch. We were told the lake is good for bass fishing.  Clearly the lake has been much higher in recent weeks as there is a great deal of debris about 30 feet beyond the normal lake line.  We can imagine that this is a busy place in the summer — miniature golf, band stand, baseball fields, swimming pool, and pavilions are some of the amenities.  We saw quite a few ducks in the water and red-headed woodpeckers in the trees.  A stand of pines on the lake edge was quite striking.

On Saturday, we took a 3-mile walk on the bike/walk trail that traces the perimeter of the park. The weather was misty and cool, but not unpleasant. In the afternoon heavy rain is expected and then the temperature is expected to plummet.

David took his DJI Inspire 1 drone up in the afternoon before the big rain hit. Notice that the feature image above has both the island and stand of trees that are part of the HDR gallery yesterday.

Smith Lake Park Review:  A large campground with full hookups at most sites.  Sites are mostly on a gentle sloped hill so not quite level.  There are a large number of trailers which are not occupied and appear to be parked for the winter — although a few are in use. Multiple cabins and pavilions.  Not cheap — $24 per night.  Pleasant staff at the office.
