Miami Whitewater Forest Camping

It’s a short, about 3 hour drive, from West Lafayette to this camping area in Harrison OH. It took us a bit longer as we stopped in Westfield to deliver a photograph to a long time customer.

Most of the drive was uneventful — on interstates. The campground is mostly empty on this weekday, early season stay. We are here until Friday — planning to hike the well-maintained moderate length trails.

After arriving on Monday was collected downed wood and walked the campground.

On Tuesday we took two pleasant hikes. One is a paved trail of about two miles that passes through a meadow, some forest, and along the river. After that we took the Oak Leaf trail which was about a mile down to a beaver dammed stream. Beautiful woods — oak, maple, beech, tulip, and even a pawpaw or two.

The – sites in the campground are fairly close together and would not be very private if the campground were full. Site 116 is off the road and 114 gets a tenter away from everyone, but the latter would not work for an RV.

Dinner was potatoes, onions, and steak cooked over the fire with green beans and a salad. They sell wood at the ranger station which is manufactured logs — a first.
