Brule River State Forest – Day 3
It rained the rest of the day, over night, and into Wednesday morning. When the rain changed to a gentle mist around noon, we headed up to a beach on Lake Superior where the Brule River meets the lake. We walked along a sandy spit with the wild lake on one side and the gentle river flowing on the other. It was a very different lake from the one we visited with Steven and Sarah on Sunday. Today was cold and windy with huge waves rolling onto the sandbar beach.
After our beach walk we headed to a portion of the North Country Trail that passes through a bog. A mile plus boardwalk has been built through the wetland. The bog is amazing — full of ferns (cinnamon and royal among others) and a soft carpet of moss. Well worth the visit.
