Driving to Seminole Canyon SP

After a stop at a HEB grocery for some much needed supplies, we drove about 200 miles — San Antonio to Del Rio.

The drive west and south took us through part of the Texas “hill country.” Lovely area, but not highly populated. Lots of ranches including those that advertise they raise “exotic” animals. We saw antelope, goats, sheep, cattle, and some tusked pig-like animal which may have been javelina.

Our destination was Seminole Canyon SP which is right on the US-Mexican border. The terrain certainly changed as we approached Del Rio. The winds no longer draw moisture off the gulf in this area so suddenly it is very dry and barren. No more ranches.

The park and campground sit on the rim of the Seminole canyon. The campground has a “developed” area and a primitive area. Some sites have electric and water, all have picnic tables and fire rings; there is a dump. The Park Office houses a small but very nice museum and has tee shirts and books for sale. The park offers a very slow WiFi, but our AT&T data is good and fast; no TV signal.
