Painted Bunting Trail
Freezing temperatures overnight, but it turned warm by the time we started a hike along the Painted Bunting Trail. This 2.5 mile hike is a mostly level, easy trail except for a few rocky portions. One walks through juniper, elm, persimmon, and live oak. The area was “cleared” with a prescribed burn a few years ago so the trees are fairly far apart with lots of lovely (dry) grass. We encountered a few people on horses and bikes and one other pair of hikers. A pleasant walk but no wildlife although we heard birds from time to time.
