Guadalupe River SP

A short 50-mile drive took us from Lake Calaveras to the Guadalupe River State Park north of San Antonio. We made one stop to give Vanessa a much needed bath. She looks much spiffier without her coat of salt and road grime.

This park has nearly 100 campsites in three loops. There are trails through the juniper and oak forest and along the river. In warmer weather clearly many people canoe, kayak, and tube the river. There is plenty of parking at the put-in and take-out points with 3-4 miles between each one.

We took a little more than one mile hike along the river, enjoying the beauty of the bald cypress roots and towering cliffs which are home to many swallows.

From what we have seen — nice park. Clean. Electric/water sites with tent pads, picnic tables, and fire rings. The rangers are very pleasant and have firewood and literature for sale. Some TV reception and good AT&Tdata.
