South Dakota
After leaving Worthington we basically spent the day driving across South Dakota. Lots of cattle and greener than expected. Few crops planted.
We stopped at the Porter Sculpture Park in Montrose SD. From I-90 you can see two of the large sculptures, a horse and a bull’s head, however, there are more than 50 other sculptures and farm equipment to be viewed up close. The park is right off the interstate and the sculptor charges $10 to walk through his work. We enjoyed the walk a lot — much of the work is very whimsical, for-example, a vulture with forks for feet.
After that break we traveled on to the Missouri River overlook where there is another sculpture celebrating the dignity of the Native Americans. There is also a nice walk to an overlook of the river, but there are too many trees that have grown up to make the view really enjoyable.
Our overnight ended up being at a Flying J at Exit 61 off I-90 in SD. Not the greatest as the trucks idle all night, but they had fuel and a free RV dump.
