Mobile Audubon Bird Sanctuary
Today’s hike was at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island at the very southwest end of Mobile Bay. The drive out to the island through the marshes and sand bars is quite spectacular. Dauphin island is little more than a sandbar itself – technically a barrier island. The bird sanctuary is lovely and a joy to walk through. Lots of song birds, a few heron and egrets, a report of a peregrine falcon (but we did not see him), and turtles and one alligator basking in the sun. I especially liked the pine trees that grown right up to the gulf’s shore. The contrast of the very white sand with their dark bark is striking. I’d like to come back here.
The rest of the day was spent dealing with our computer issues. Downloading software just takes so long on the free wifis we can access. We actually ate our dinner in a parking lot outside of Barnes and Noble while we downloaded Quicken. We will have to go back tomorrow to work on some more programs we need. Ugh.
