Blakeley State Historic Park
Sunday we drove just a short way, stopping in Greenville, Alabama at a Walmart where David had determined we would have some good TV to watch football. After spending time in Wisconsin, we have become Packers fans.
Monday we headed south, where near Mobile, we found a lovely wooded campsite in the Blakeley State Historic Park near Spanish Fort, Alabama. We spent the afternoon on a 3+ mile hike around the park.
The terrain here reminds us of the Florida panhandle, plus this area has plenty of history. The last battle of the Civil War was fought here. Unfortunately, that battle occurred after Lee had surrendered to Grant at Appomattox. Obviously, news didn’t travel as fast in those days. We enjoyed our walk along the boardwalks built along the bay and through the woods to the battlefield where the breastworks built by the Confederate army is still evident.
Dinner was pork tenderloin and potatoes grilled by David on the fire and a salad.
