Monahans Sandhills State Park
Today was a long slog through some of the ugliest parts of Texas — oil wells, scrub, brown grass. But we landed at a gem of a place — Monahans Sandhills State Park. There are miles of sand dunes on which kids are sledding with disk sleds. We didn’t sled, but we did take a walk. It’s hard to climb the steep dunes, but we enjoyed working our way along the less steep parts — ridge to ridge. On the way back from our walk it began to splatter rain and even hail. This is definitely a place to which we would like to return for a longer stay and longer hike.
Temperature here was 49 today, about the same as in Lafayette.
