Cedar Hill State Park
Cedar Hill State Park is just south of Dallas on Joe Poole Lake. Given that there are 10 boat ramps into the lake, I would say that during the warmer/better weather, it is a popular camping/boating park. Right now much of the park is closed and the parts open are lightly used. Our site looks over the water and has a picnic table and fire ring which we don’t plan to use as the temperature is in the 40s — hard to believe since it was in the upper 70s two days ago. What the park does have is good AT&T internet and good TV reception so we will hunker down with a few football games.
We took a couple mile walk around the park. The hiking trails are closed because of muddy conditions. There is an “Agricultural History Center” in the park that protects the farm buildings and homes of the Penn Family who came in 1854 from Illinois to settle the area. The buildings are amazing when one realizes they were built without electric or gasoline power. One barn is particularly lovely with interior buildings which had been the old school house and granary.
