Icefields Again

The weather started out a little hazy, but as we drove into the park, it improved until by afternoon we had sun and high clouds. Coming back to Jasper was a great idea except for the fact that it was so crowded. It was fun to see the same places that had been covered with snow and clouds, now revealed. We will have to do some May to August picture comparisons.

We made stops at the Sunwapta Falls and the Tangle Creek Falls. The latter is the beginning of the Tangle Creek (so named I guess because it is a highly braided creek) which flows to the Athabaska River, the major river in the park.

After we had had our fill of looking and shooting photos we headed east on Route 16, basically an interstate. We are now headed east. Just a lot of driving (1884 miles to Steven’s house according to our mapping software), with we hope, a few interesting stops along the way. We have never been to Eastern Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba before so this should be interesting, or at least informative.

We stopped for the night in Edson AB at the Willmore Recreation Park. For dinner David grilled on a fire meat, parsnips, potatoes, and eggplant which we ate with a salad.

Willmore Recreation Park: 41 sites located 3-4 miles south of town off a gravel road. There are two sections to the campground, Riverside and Overflow. We stayed at Riverside in a large, level, private site next to the river. Some of the sites are rather close together and small; they were occupied by a large, respectful group camping together. Picnic tables and fire rings are provided. Pit toilets. Firewood bundles are $5 from the camp attendant. Fee: $17
