Pittsford Highlands
We took two days to drive from the Boston area to the Rochester area. We had planned to spend one night at a campground near Albany, but as it was cold and raining we took advantage of their RV dump and then headed west to a Walmart near Herkimer NY. We then arrived in Pittsford NY around 2:00 on October 14.
We visited for a day with our friends Udo and Christine who moved into Pittsford Highlands, a senior living facility, in 2023.  It was a 24-hour visit which included a hike along the barge canal, dinner created by Udo, and lunch in the dining room with a couple we knew from years back, Muriel and Will Herzog. Muriel had babysat our sons while I was working on my master’s degree. The Highlands is typical of the senior facilities we have seen.  Well kept by someone other than the tenants and full of activities. It is a short walk to the Auburn trail which leads to the trail along the barge canal.  The Auburn trail is a “rail to trail” along the bed of a railroad that went from Rochester to Auburn NY. Nice walk with views of a few houses,  the canal, and trees changing colors.Lunch in the dining room was delicious and quiet.  We enjoyed talking with Muriel who we had not seen in 44 years and meeting her husband Will who we had heard about but never met.  Of course, we caught up on what the “kids” were doing now.
