Jefferson Lake State Park

We spent two nights at Jefferson Lake State Park — about 6 hours from Rochester and 6 hours from West Lafayette. the campground is on a hill above the lake with nice, but not very level sites. A few have electricity and there is one bathroom with running water under construction. We found lots of downed wood for a fire so David could cook our typical steak dinner with potatoes and onions.

We enjoyed the 3-mile walk around the lake. There was only one place that was difficult — steep and gravel . Had we known about that spot, we would have done the trail in a clock-wise direction. These steep, slippery areas are easier to handle when walking up hill . While on the trail we encountered a few other hikers and a group of duck hunters. Today was the first day of duck season and we heard a number of shots early in the morning.

it was rainy and quite windy for our Sunday drive home. Fortunately it was clear and sunny by the time we reached home so we were able to clear out some of the van without getting wet. We decided to leave the rest until the morning.
