Governor Dodge State Park WI

Governor Dodge State Park WI

Just 40 minutes west of Kathleen’s is a terrific Wisconsin State Park.  After a stop at the grocery, we headed to the park, found a large, private site and settled in.  Although the afternoon was very warm and humid, we took a 3.5 mile hike to one of the two lakes in the park, Cox Hollow Lake.  Most of the trail was wooded, so the walk was pleasant, if warm.  Dinner was salmon, potatoes, cauliflower, and salad.

In the morning we moved to a trailhead to hike near the second lake in the park, Twin Valley Lake. Today was even warmer, summerier, and more humid than yesterday a.  Parts of the hike were through and along the edge of a meadow making it uncomfortable, but the occasional breeze made things better.  Part of our 4.5 mile hike included a trip up a rock outcropping where there is a cave to explore.

Following the hike we enjoyed a swim in Twin Valley Lake at a sandy beach.

Upon returning to the campsite we had a dinner of Porterhouse steak, potatoes, green beans from Kathleen’s garden, and salad.
